NCC asks telecom providers to rollover unused data

NCC had said that unused data by telecom subscribers must be rolled over in their subsequent subscriptions.

This was revealed in a statement endorsed by the agency’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Adinde.

This announcement said the agency had reached the conclusion at the bi-annual meeting with senior executives of telecommunications companies on complaints management.

The meeting had been held virtually and it focused on consumer relations and complaints management protocols.

There will be follow-up discussions by the commission and telecom service providers on the fair usage policy on unlimited data bundles/ rollover.

This will provide a detailed explanation and better awareness of the processes and procedures of the policy for the benefit of the customers.

“The commission hereby wishes to restate that it direction of June 2018 to service providers to begin enactment of data rollover from 26 June 2018, persists in force,” it said.

“In other words, a subscriber’s unused data must be rolled over to his/her subsequent data subscription.

Hence, the commission advises service providers to continue to inform and inform subscribers on the procedures and processes for data rollover,” it added.

The NCC and the telecom service providers conceded that the compensation policy should be reviewed and complied with at all times.

“The service providers also promised to ensure that complaints are settled in both the letter and spirit of the newly examined Service Level Agreement (SLA),” it concluded.
