Some critics and fans don’t seem to agree on the quality of Disney’s live-action movie “Mulan”. According to the review aggregator for Rotten Tomatoes, critics are enjoying the new Mulan.
The film has earned a 79% “certified fresh” rating on the site, with a critical consensus that reads, “It could have told it classic story with greater depth, the live-action Mulan is supposed to be a visual marvel that serves as a rousing update to it’s animated predecessor.”
The audience score tells a different story enitrely. At 56%, the film’s audience score is more than 20 points lower than the critic score and ranks for rotten tomatoes.
Another single-star fan review says, “there are many missed opportunities and strange edits after postponement due to the pandemic.Couldn’t you straighten it out when you had extra time to polish the product?. The fan further went on to complain about the CG being jarring.
Another two star review reads “Animated was way better, it is a meh. It could have been better”. The movie’s story line is focused around the main character Mulan, a strong willed girl hell bent on making her family proud after turning out not to be the perfect daughter like her parent wanted her to be. She ends up up going to fight in the war, representing her family (The Hua family) and eventually making them proud of her.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, The movie “Mulan” is not seeing a theatrical release in North America. It is instead available on Disney+ through Premier Access. It will release theatrically in some international markets at a later date.
